Adyen plans to expand its India operations and hire more staff, viewing the country as a long-term growth market as multinational companies enter India and Indian businesses expand overseas. Its local workforce reached 120 in the first half of this year, up tenfold from 2023, while India pre-tax income more than doubled to 3.18 million euros ($3.5 million) in 2025. The company has expanded since receiving payment aggregator and cross-border licences in 2024, despite challenges faced by Stripe and PayPal. Adyen is adapting its platform to data-localisation rules, recurring payment mandates and UPI (India’s instant bank-payment network), while supporting clients including Adobe and Oyo. It is also preparing for agentic commerce, in which software agents search for products and complete purchases, as the National Payments Corp of India prepares a framework for small AI-agent payments without approval for every transaction.
