CoreWeave shares jumped almost 12% on Tuesday after OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, an advanced large language model (AI system trained on text) designed to handle increasingly complex tasks. The launch renewed expectations that more capable AI systems will require substantially more computing capacity, directly supporting CoreWeave, which has approximately $22.4 billion in contracts with OpenAI to provide AI infrastructure. CoreWeave reported second-quarter revenue of $2.58 billion, up 112% from a year earlier, and an approximately $104 billion contracted revenue backlog. It also secured more than $25 billion in new customer commitments early in the third quarter. The rally extended to Lumentum, Coherent, Corning and Nebius as investors targeted the broader infrastructure chain, including computing, cloud platforms, optical components and fiber-optic networks. The trade remains exposed to heavy spending on processors, buildings and power, as well as debt, cash-flow and execution risks. Further gains across the group would support a broader infrastructure rally, while a simultaneous reversal could indicate that the move was driven more by enthusiasm surrounding the model launch than by a lasting reassessment of valuations.
