JD.com launches Physical AI plan targeting 10 million hours of robot data

  • JD.com launched its Physical AI Acceleration Plan for embodied robotics on September 9.
  • JD.com plans to collect over 10 million hours of real-world data within two years.
  • JD.com set six robotics goals spanning data collection, manufacturing, logistics, services and retail.

JD.com launched its JD Physical AI Acceleration Plan on September 9 at the 2026 JD Global Technology Explorer Conference, targeting six areas for embodied robots: data, mechanics, manufacturing, sales, logistics and services. Cao Peng, Chairman of JD.com's Technology Committee and President of JD Cloud, described the first phase as building scaled capabilities across data, manufacturing, R&D, sales, logistics and services. The company plans to collect more than 10 million hours of real-world human scenario data within two years and combine it with internet, simulated and real-robot data to develop an integrated understanding-generation-action model for embodied intelligence. Over five years, JD.com plans to establish 80 robotics bases across China, procure more than 3 million robots, 1 million autonomous vehicles and 100,000 drones, and build a full-lifecycle service platform. By 2028, it will invest more than CNY 10 billion, approximately $1.5 billion, to help 100 brands achieve independent annual sales above CNY 1 billion each. JD Cloud has also partnered with Moore Threads and others on a domestically produced 10,000-card cluster, with plans for a 100,000-card cluster. The initiative follows a 53.2% year-over-year increase in JD.com's system-wide R&D investment in the first half of 2026. Analysts say JD.com's logistics infrastructure gives it extensive real-world data and deployment scenarios, although technology maturity, costs and operational efficiency remain important constraints on commercialization.
