Apple held 19% of the global smartphone chipset market in the second quarter as stronger iPhone 17 demand, particularly for Pro models, supported slightly higher year-over-year shipments. MediaTek led with 31% and Qualcomm held 23%, although both suppliers recorded shipment declines of more than 30% amid higher memory costs, inventory buildup and weaker device sales. Samsung Electronics’ mobile application processor share rose to 9% from 7% in the previous quarter and 5% in the fourth quarter of last year, driven by the Exynos 2600 in the Galaxy S26 series and Exynos 1680 and 1480 chips in midrange Galaxy models. Counterpoint said global smartphone shipments fell 21% year over year in the quarter. Attention is turning to Samsung’s Exynos 2700 and its potential adoption across the expanded Galaxy S27 lineup.
