Instacart has launched Clementine, a conversational AI grocery assistant now available in the United States and Canada. The tool can turn a conversation, recipe, handwritten list or screenshot into a ready-to-buy cart, while helping users plan meals, manage budgets and find relevant deals. Clementine can generate personalized recipes or surface recipes from trusted publishers, tailor recommendations to preferences such as gluten-free, vegetarian, nut-free or organic choices, and check local store inventory. Instacart says the system draws on more than 14 years of shopping behavior and approximately 1.6 billion orders across nearly 100,000 North American grocery stores, with early Clementine-assisted orders exceeding the company's roughly $113 average basket size. The launch places Instacart alongside Uber Eats and DoorDash, which have introduced similar AI shopping tools, as delivery platforms compete to become household planning destinations rather than only places to complete purchases.
