Amazon plans to invest more than $200 billion in artificial intelligence during 2026, expanding AWS data centers, chips and networking equipment to meet rising cloud and AI demand. The plan comes as Wall Street raises its forecast for S&P 500 earnings growth in 2026 to 32% from 24% before the second-quarter reporting season. Bloomberg Intelligence said 86% of reporting companies exceeded profit expectations, the highest beat rate since 2021, with AI-related companies including Amazon.com and Alphabet among the largest beats. The investment underscores AI’s growing influence across technology, consumer, communications, financial and energy companies, although rising memory costs, supply constraints and slowing margin growth could challenge the pace of gains.
