Privacy token Zcash (ZEC) extended its rally to $1,290 early Wednesday, securing a 2,413% gain over one year. It was later trading at $1,282, up 10.55% in 24 hours and 57.23% over the week, a level last seen in November 2016. CoinGecko data showed ZEC had risen 154% in 30 days, lifting its market capitalization to $21.62 billion and keeping it among the top 10 cryptocurrencies. The move followed a bullish pennant breakout in early September and coincided with substantial purchases by three wallets that may belong to the same whale. Lookonchain said the wallets used 3,700 ETH, worth about $9.23 million, and 2 million USDC to acquire 8,994 ZEC valued at $11.23 million, and were still buying. Open interest (the value of outstanding derivatives contracts) rose 15.47% to $2.91 billion in 24 hours, while CoinGlass reported $11.52 million in short positions liquidated compared with $2.33 million in longs. Zcash also gained its first options market for a US-listed privacy asset ETP (exchange-traded product), with options trading going live on the NYSE. Grayscale's Zcash fund, ZCSH, had surpassed $500 million in assets under management and held more than 550,000 ZEC. The fund began trading on NYSE Arca on August 25, offering brokerage investors exposure to ZEC without managing a wallet.
