Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has backed EIP-8288 for possible inclusion in I-Star, the proposed fork following Hegota. The draft recursive STARK mempool architecture, proposed by Buterin and Thomas Coratger, would aggregate cryptographic claims before block inclusion and shift demanding verification work away from Ethereum's core execution path. Buterin said the design, which he described as a step beyond Frames, could lower quantum-safe private transaction costs from about 10 million gas to the low tens of thousands. Mempool nodes would collect transaction dependencies and generate recursive proofs, while block builders would include one proof covering dependencies for transactions in a block. EIP-8288 has not been activated or scheduled for Ethereum's live protocol. Its development coincides with the Ethereum Foundation's September 7 goal of achieving quantum resistance across Ethereum's execution, consensus and data layers by December 2029.
