Amazon Leo has booked six additional launches with Arianespace, raising its total number of missions ordered from the European launch provider to 24. The agreement, announced at the International Space Summit in Paris, supports deployment of Amazon's planned 3,232-satellite Gen 1 broadband constellation. The Federal Communications Commission granted Amazon a conditional waiver from its interim requirement to place half the constellation in orbit by July 30, but left its obligation to deploy all 3,232 satellites by July 30, 2029 unchanged. Amazon's launch planning has also faced pressure after a Blue Origin New Glenn rocket was destroyed during a static-fire test in Florida. The summit underscored political strains around Europe's space ambitions, while Isar Aerospace last week became the first European commercial company to successfully deliver satellites into orbit.
