Meta has acquired Swedish AI startup Stilla.ai to accelerate development of Meta Business Agent, an AI system that helps merchants interact with customers and complete transactions across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. Founded in Stockholm in 2024, Stilla emerged from stealth in January 2026 and previously raised a $5 million pre-seed round led by General Catalyst. Before the acquisition, the company developed a multiplayer AI agent for workplace communication, connecting more than 3,000 tools and serving enterprise customers including Spotify and Ramp. Its technology maintained shared context across conversations and projects and automated tasks such as meeting notes and ticket creation. Stilla had also expanded compatibility with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint by May 2026. The acquisition will bring Stilla’s team and technology into Meta, underscoring the company’s strategy of embedding AI into its messaging-based business ecosystem.
