Adam Iza, 26, of California, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and three years of supervised release for helping plan, fund and coordinate an attempted kidnapping in Danbury, Connecticut, aimed at obtaining Bitcoin linked to a theft of hundreds of millions of dollars. U.S. District Judge Sarala V. Nagala imposed the 180-month sentence in Hartford after Iza pleaded guilty on June 1, 2026, to conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, also known as Hobbs Act robbery. The victims were the parents of a person linked to the earlier Bitcoin theft. Six Florida men accused of carrying out the August 2024 carjacking and kidnapping have pleaded guilty, while Iza's brother Saif Faiq and other alleged co-conspirators have not yet been sentenced or are awaiting trial. The case was investigated by federal, state and local law-enforcement agencies. It comes amid other crypto-linked kidnapping cases in the United States and a reported increase in such cases in France.
