New Zealand stocks fell 108 points, or 0.8%, to close at 13,711 on Thursday, reaching their lowest level since July 31 after gaining in the previous session. The decline followed a weaker Wall Street session, where higher Treasury yields and rising oil prices pressured sentiment. Higher oil prices renewed inflation concerns and strengthened expectations that central banks, including the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, could raise interest rates. The RBNZ recently increased its policy rate for a second consecutive meeting. Traders were awaiting US inflation data later in the week for clues about the Federal Reserve’s decision at its upcoming meeting, along with New Zealand’s August manufacturing PMI due Friday. Industrials, utilities and real estate were the main drags. China’s rising consumer and producer prices, reported Wednesday, had also weighed on sentiment amid higher oil prices.
