NVIDIA is partnering with eight Australian cloud and data-center operators to develop up to 2 gigawatts of AI computing capacity by 2027, a target that would exceed Australia's existing 1.6-gigawatt computing capacity. Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC and AirTrunk will operate AI factories using NVIDIA's DSX platform, accelerated computing, networking, software and ecosystem support. Sharon AI plans to deploy up to 68,000 NVIDIA GPUs, IREN is applying the architecture at its 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia, and CDC has more than 550 megawatts of existing capacity across Australia and New Zealand while developing another 800 megawatts. NVIDIA said the expansion would broaden access to accelerated computing and Nemotron open models for organizations including Heidi and Atlassian. The announcement follows NVIDIA's withdrawal last week from its AI Compute Partnership financing program, which had named Sharon AI and Firmus as partners, after employee concerns over antitrust exposure. NVIDIA's AI-related equity holdings reached $99 billion in late July, up from about $7 billion a year earlier.
