The Australian dollar briefly reached 72.38 U.S. cents in recent hours, its highest level since the middle of May. CBA FX strategist Carol Kong said the currency is benefiting from expectations of additional tightening by the Reserve Bank of Australia and broad weakness in the U.S. dollar. The next resistance level is 72.78 U.S. cents. Markets viewed RBA Deputy Gov. Andrew Hauser’s Tuesday comments on inflation risks as pointing toward another imminent rate increase, with a rise in the official cash rate on Sept. 28 priced at 70%.
