SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won visited SK AI Data Center Ulsan and SK Innovation’s Ulsan Complex, or CLX, on the 10th to review the group’s artificial intelligence transformation, known as AX. The inspection followed his June declaration of a group-wide shift to AX-centered management and focused on linking AI infrastructure development with industrial deployment. The Ulsan data center, being built jointly with Amazon Web Services, is the largest AI-dedicated infrastructure project outside South Korea’s greater Seoul area and is targeted to begin operations at the end of next year. It is the first site in SK’s plan to develop 15 gigawatts of AI infrastructure nationwide, with a separate AI data center cluster exceeding 2 gigawatts planned for the Yeongnam region. At Ulsan CLX, Chey reviewed the use of AI in refining and chemical processes, including the Dual Brain operating system, which combines real-time AI analysis with the judgment of veteran engineers across the 8.26 million-square-meter site. Chey may also attend the Ulsan Forum on the 11th, an event he attended for three consecutive years from its launch in 2022 through 2024.
