President Lee Jae Myung’s state-affairs approval rating fell to 38% in a Gallup Korea poll released on the 11th, its lowest level since his inauguration and the first time the survey has placed him in the 30s. Disapproval held at 51%, 13 percentage points above approval, as respondents most frequently cited real-estate policy, personnel issues, and economic and livelihood concerns. The result marked a third straight weekly decline and followed separate National Barometer Survey and National Standard Survey findings that put Lee’s approval at 43%. Gallup Korea also found 43% considered Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won unfit, against 22% who viewed him as fit, while 61% judged Gender Equality and Family Minister nominee Yong Hye-in unfit, compared with 13% who considered her fit. The Democratic Party of Korea received 38% support and the People Power Party 29%. Lee continues to face controversy surrounding three Cabinet nominees and political pressure over a potential South Korean military contribution in the Strait of Hormuz.
