The government has selected garlic and onions as the first products covered by the Agricultural Price Stabilization Program, which supports eligible growers when average prices fall below a standard price. The standard is set at 80% of the average wholesale price, with support covering the difference up to that level. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs made the decision at the first Agricultural Price Stabilization Deliberation Committee meeting, chaired by Vice Minister Kim Jong-gu, at Seoul’s aT Center on the 10th. The program is scheduled to begin next year following the implementation of legislation establishing agricultural price stabilization measures. Eligibility requires farmers and agricultural corporations to cultivate at least 10a and register or report their cultivation. The government will expand the list gradually, require cultivation-area reporting for supply and demand management, and deduct support from income stabilization insurance payments to prevent duplicate compensation.
