South Korean lawmakers and the Korea Fintech Industry Association held a parliamentary debate in Seoul on Sept. 10 focused on global digital-asset regulation, digital-asset ETFs, management innovation and future financial infrastructure. Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Ahn Do-geol said institutionalizing digital assets and related financial products could no longer be delayed, while urging rules that manage risks without resorting to vague regulation or indiscriminate deregulation. The discussion builds on wider concerns that South Korea lacks a complete framework for digital-asset products, including stablecoins, as global markets adopt exchange-traded products and ETFs. Ahn said stablecoins could support financial and payment infrastructure in the artificial intelligence era, but regulation must account for volatility, market-timing differences and on-chain risks such as hard forks. Participants included representatives from Bae, Kim & Lee LLC, Koscom, Mirae Asset Securities, the Digital Asset Infrastructure Council and Popilus.
