China’s four major A-share indexes opened lower on September 11, with the STAR Composite Index falling 1.25%, the Shenzhen Component Index declining 0.98%, the ChiNext Index dropping 0.85% and the Shanghai Composite Index losing 0.6%. More than 4,600 stocks traded lower. Nonferrous metals, agriculture and semiconductors led sector declines, while oil and gas and shipping stocks gained. Youcai Resources rose more than 7% after resuming trading following news that its actual controller will change to the Jiangyin State-owned Assets Office, raising expectations of state capital control. Everbright Securities said key domestic and external market variables had not materially changed, with cautious incremental investment and a persistent stock-game pattern limiting a broader advance. The brokerage described the market as undergoing differentiated rotation and consolidation after the earlier technology rally pullback, while some institutions expect range-bound bottoming to continue into mid-to-late September. On September 10, the indexes also opened lower but narrowed losses during morning trading; by midday, turnover in Shanghai and Shenzhen reached 1.0916 trillion yuan, or about $162.9 billion.
