XRP Ledger aims to introduce safeguards against quantum-computing attacks by 2028, according to XRPL Foundation community leader and validator Vet, who said related development should be well advanced in 2027. Vet described a phased hybrid rollout combining existing cryptography with quantum-resistant technology, rather than an immediate replacement of current signature systems. The timeline remains an attributed target, however, with no official XRPL roadmap, amendment, technical specification or validator vote confirming either date. XRPL currently uses secp256k1 and Ed25519 signatures, which could be compromised by sufficiently capable quantum computers. Its RegularKey feature enables signing-key changes without altering an account address, but it does not by itself complete a network-wide migration or replace master keys. Any protocol-wide post-quantum upgrade would require a defined signature scheme, testing and approval through XRPL's validator amendment process.
