Britain has spent nearly $40 million on SpaceX satellite communications, including about £13 million ($17.6 million) on Starshield and £16.5 million ($22.3 million) on Starlink, becoming the first country outside the U.S. to publicly acknowledge Starshield deployment. The Defence Ministry operates about 1,000 Starshield terminals and 500 Starlink terminals, began using Starshield capacity through Starlink hardware in 2024, and bought its first dedicated Starshield terminals in 2025. Separately, SpaceX and CEO Elon Musk are changing how the company builds data centers after outages at its Colossus campus in Tennessee, prioritizing reliability, backup power, cooling systems and more extensive testing over rapid construction. About 319 million insider shares became eligible for sale 90 days after SpaceX's June 12 IPO, which raised $85.7 billion at a $1.77 trillion valuation. SpaceX reported $7.81 billion in second-quarter revenue, up 91.9% from a year earlier, and a $0.09 per-share loss that was narrower than analyst forecasts.
