The XRP Ledger has crossed 5.06 billion validated transactions, but new data shows that network activity is increasingly concentrated among a small number of accounts and heavily shaped by automation. Bitquery found that 793 sender accounts generated 75.98 million of the ledger’s 81.56 million transactions in August 2026, or 93.2% of monthly activity. Of those accounts, 767 were classified as machines and produced 92% of all transactions, while 26 exchange hot wallets added 1.1%. One address generated almost 13 million transactions, including 12.79 million decentralized-exchange orders, but only 882 resulted in trades. Bitquery counted 2,970,922 settled trades from 12,153 accounts, far below total transaction volume. Evernorth Research found that order-book trading volume rose 79% year over year in the second quarter even as the number of initiating accounts fell about 40%, a pattern it said could reflect a larger role for professional traders. Average value held on XRPL reached $4.26 billion, while average RLUSD balances rose 642% to $539 million and stablecoin value moved increased 925%. The data measure addresses rather than individual users, and the commercial significance of the ledger’s throughput depends on whether activity produces settled trades, payments and XRP-linked liquidity. Earlier criticism of the network as a "ghost chain" drew a defense from Ripple CTO Emeritus and original XRP Ledger architect David Schwartz, while Pro-XRP lawyer Bill Morgan shared a GROK response rejecting the label as a measure of value transfer. XRP Ledger also continues to expand in tokenized real-world assets, stablecoins and agentic finance, with Permission Delegation moving toward validator voting.
