Fifty European CEOs and investors have urged EU legislators to preserve the core provisions of the proposed EU Inc law, which is designed to make it cheaper and easier for businesses to launch and operate across national borders. The legislation is being negotiated in Brussels and is expected to be approved by the end of the year, although the final version may be weaker than startup founders had hoped. Signatories including investors from Index Ventures, Accel, Balderton, Atomico and EQT are calling for a genuinely European company form rather than another layer over 27 national systems. Their demands include allowing founders to choose a registered office without relocating all operations, opening eligibility beyond innovative startups, creating a single authoritative European register and keeping employment protections tied to where workers actually work. The latest letter also calls for employees to be taxed only once they hold company shares, revising an earlier campaign position described as taxation upon disposal.
