SpaceX has reassigned more than 300 engineers from its rocket and Starlink divisions to SpaceXAI after an internal volunteer call drew over 1,300 applicants, as the company overhauls data-center construction and reliability practices. The move followed a management shakeup that began in late June 2026, when Wesley Salandro replaced data-center team lead Dan Rowland, and comes after a facility outage and concerns about temporary power and cooling systems. SpaceXAI operates roughly 1.4 gigawatts of computing capacity and aims to exceed 2 gigawatts before the end of 2026, while expansion beyond Memphis has slowed as engineers add redundancy and conduct more extensive testing. The company generated $2.6 billion in external compute-rental revenue in the second quarter of 2026, with Google and Anthropic among its infrastructure users, while Goldman Sachs has forecast AI revenue rising from $3.2 billion in 2025 to $322 billion by 2030. SpaceX is also targeting an initial ramp-up of satellite production for planned orbital data centers by 2027.
