Luke Dashjr has proposed two temporary Bitcoin consensus-rule changes intended to pressure miners he says prioritize short-term profit over network decentralization. One option would extend coinbase maturity from 100 blocks to 4,375 blocks, or roughly one month at Bitcoin’s 10-minute target. The other would set Bitcoin’s 3.125 BTC block subsidy to zero for approximately 30 days, leaving miners dependent on transaction fees. That period would cover about 4,320 blocks and temporarily defer roughly 13,500 BTC of scheduled issuance, without automatically changing Bitcoin’s 21 million supply limit. Dashjr shared the proposal on September 10, 2026, but did not specify a BIP number, activation threshold, software release or method for measuring the month. The ideas are not finalized consensus changes and would require broad agreement among miners, node operators, developers and businesses.
