OpenAI launched its Data agent inside ChatGPT Work on September 10, 2026, enabling enterprise users to analyze company information, create interactive dashboards and distribute findings through natural-language prompts. The tool connects to approved data platforms including Amazon Redshift, Datadog, Google BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, MongoDB and Snowflake, while also accessing files and documents from Google Drive and SharePoint. It uses semantic layers and business intelligence systems to incorporate organizational definitions, relationships and metric terminology. Administrators control available connections and role-based permissions, while queries run under each connected account’s existing table-, row- and column-level access restrictions. Users can edit, share and refresh dashboards, including dashboards built in Omni, Oracle BI, Power BI, Sigma, Tableau and ThoughtSpot. OpenAI said nearly all of its product team and more than two-thirds of its go-to-market organization use data agents internally. NTT Data, Thermo Fisher and ServicePiston participated in the alpha program. The Data agent is part of ChatGPT Work, an enterprise-focused agentic workspace launched in July 2026 and built on GPT-5.6. OpenAI previously said its internal version operated across roughly 70,000 datasets containing more than 600 petabytes of data.
