Coinbase restored the Coinbase Wallet name on Sept. 8, replacing the Base App brand introduced in July 2025 and refocusing the self-custodial product on multichain trading. The company is positioning the wallet as a testing ground for assets and experiences that are not yet available on its centralized exchange, beginning with Hyperliquid-powered perpetual futures. Prediction markets and tokenized stocks are also available through the wallet, subject to product reviews, compliance checks and geographic restrictions. Users retain control of their private keys, while tokens minted on supported networks can appear by default unless the app identifies them as malicious or fraudulent. Coinbase Wallet supports more than 10 networks, including Base, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, Avalanche, Monad and Robinhood Chain; Monad and Robinhood Chain were additions from the earlier Base App network list. The rebrand follows Coinbase's unsuccessful effort to make the product an everything app centered on social networking, messaging, payments and trading. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said in March that the social features "didn't quite work," and Base creator Jesse Pollak transferred app leadership to Jordan "Cobie" Fish in July after acknowledging shortcomings in the social and creator strategy.
