Shell Energy North America will sell its interests in RISEC Holdings to Constellation Energy Generation for $715 million and acquire 100% of Hunlock Creek Generating from Riverview Power Holdings, an indirect subsidiary of Castleton Commodities International. RISEC owns a 609-megawatt, two-unit combined-cycle natural gas plant serving the ISO New England wholesale market, while Hunlock owns 169 megawatts of gas-fired generation in Pennsylvania. The Hunlock assets include a 125-megawatt combined-cycle facility and a 44-megawatt simple-cycle peaking plant serving the PJM Interconnection market. Shell did not disclose the acquisition price. The RISEC sale follows Shell’s acquisition of the facility in January 2025 and will end an energy conversion agreement under which Shell had taken the plant’s full output since 2019. Shell said the sale will bring forward expected returns and produce a significant gain, while the Hunlock purchase is expected to generate returns above the investment thresholds set for its power business at its 2025 Capital Markets Day. Both transactions require regulatory approval and are expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
