Global electric-vehicle sales rose 2% to 1.83 million units in August, marking a sixth consecutive month of growth, according to UK-based research firm Benchmark Mineral Intelligence. Europe led the expansion, with monthly sales up 36% to 380,000 vehicles and year-to-date growth reaching 29%, supported by subsidies in major markets. Chinese sales fell 11% to 1.03 million vehicles against a tougher year-earlier comparison, while North American sales dropped 33% to 140,000 units after a rush to buy EVs in the United States before the federal tax credit expired. Sales in the rest of the world jumped 97% to 290,000 units. The figures highlight diverging regional demand as U.S. federal EV tax credits were removed in September 2025 and Chinese automakers increasingly depend on exports for growth.
