Hon Hai Chairman Young Liu accompanied rotating CEO Chiang Chi-heng to Apple Park for Apple’s fall product launch, supporting newly appointed Apple CEO John Ternus at his first event in the role. Liu’s front-row appearance and historic photo with Ternus were viewed by the market as a strong signal of the companies’ longstanding partnership and as an effort to counter speculation about changes to Apple’s supply chain. Hon Hai, Apple’s largest manufacturing partner globally, supplies the iPhone Duo foldable phone, the iPhone 18 series, MacBook laptops, Mac mini and high-end AI servers. Apple’s entry into foldable phones is also benefiting Taiwanese suppliers including hinge makers Shin Zu Shing and Jarllytec, and flexible printed circuit board makers Zhen Ding Technology Holding and Flexium Interconnect. Fubon Securities said the iPhone Duo’s wide-screen, 4:3 inner display requires hinges with greater load-bearing capacity. The firm estimates foldable iPhones will represent 8% of iPhone 18 series shipments this year, while industry participants expect Apple’s market influence to accelerate foldable-phone adoption. The launch also reinforces Hon Hai’s positioning in AI hardware and may improve order visibility for Taiwanese suppliers as the new products gain market acceptance.
