Victims among Sejong Medical and Genencell shareholders held a press conference at South Korea’s National Assembly on the 11th, calling for a full investigation into Genencell founder Kang Se-chan, brokers Yang Mo and Yang Su-jin, Kim Seung-won, described as the nominee for Minister of Justice, and aides from a lawmaker’s office. They said they bought shares based on Genencell’s COVID-19 treatment development, clinical trial expectations, and information disclosed to the market. The group wants investigators to establish whether investor information was accurate, who influenced the clinical trial approval process, and how those expectations affected Sejong Medical’s stock price and trading volume. They also called for scrutiny of any large-scale buying followed by share sales by existing shareholders or specific entities, including who received economic benefits. The victims estimate that approximately 30,000 Sejong Medical shareholders suffered about 5 billion won in damages. Park Jeong-hoon said Mr. Jo, who raised the issue, had sought personal protection from the Anti-Corruption & Civil Rights Commission after his identity was initially discussed by Supreme Council member Park Sun-won. Unaffiliated Rep. Han Dong-hoon accused Park Sun-won and Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok of being accomplices.
