South Korea’s first vice minister of land, infrastructure and transport, Kim Yi-tak, said LH employees would not face disadvantages in pay or other employment conditions after Korea Land and Housing Corporation is divided. At a restructuring kickoff meeting with LH President Lee Sung-hoon and other officials on the 11th, Kim said the ministry would consult the Ministry of Finance and Economy and other agencies, while keeping the headquarters of both successor entities in Jinju. The government’s blueprint would assign land development and housing construction to the tentatively named Housing and Urban Development Corporation, while housing welfare and asset reserve functions would move to the tentatively named Housing and Urban Asset Corporation. The LH labor union opposes the spin-off and has demanded negotiations, with internal resistance making workforce concerns a central challenge before the detailed plan is announced. Kim also stressed that housing supply and housing welfare services must continue without disruption during the restructuring.
