Capital Power and Alpine Canada have signed a memorandum of understanding for a proposed long-term partnership to modernize Canadian winter sport and expand access to skiing. Capital Power proposes providing $5 million in the first year and up to $20 million more over a proposed five-year term, for potential total support of $25 million. The full commitment is conditional on Alpine Canada amalgamating with at least one additional national amateur snow discipline and receiving additional incremental government funding. The partnership would support athletes, coaches, clubs and communities across alpine, para-alpine and ski cross, while eliminating team fees for national and development teams. The Government of Canada is providing Alpine Canada with $2.77 million in supplemental funding, bringing its total funding for 2026-2027 to $8 million, including investments in the Whistler, Panorama and Nakiska national training centres. Alpine Canada is inviting other Canadian winter national sport organizations to join the initiative.
