Brazilian investor and former banker Marcelo Kayath has been described as an excellent potential finance minister if Senator Flavio Bolsonaro defeats President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in next month’s election. Eduardo Bolsonaro, advising his brother’s campaign, said Kayath had met him four times, including Thursday, and that they shared views on several issues, while stressing that no decision had been made and other candidates were still being considered. Kayath founded QMS Capital after spending two decades at Credit Suisse, where he was managing director for Latin America. Eduardo credited him with helping shape Brazil’s initial public offering boom in the 2000s and attracting overseas investment through relationships with major U.S. financial firms. Kayath said his priority would be developing solutions for Brazil’s challenges through a sustainable-growth agenda, with targeted spending adjustments that preserve social programs and protect vulnerable people. A campaign member said no frontrunner had emerged for the economic post and that the election remained the campaign’s focus.
