U.S. Bank completed a live cross-border payment pilot using USBDC, its proprietary U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin, moving the token between the bank’s entities in North America and Europe on Stellar, a public blockchain network. The fifth-largest U.S. commercial bank, which has operated for 163 years, tested minting, payment, redemption, freezing, clawback and other compliance controls through its internally developed Digital Asset Platform while maintaining its finance, risk, compliance and operations infrastructure. The pilot was limited to intercompany transfers and did not involve a customer, outside bank or merchant. U.S. Bank did not disclose the amount transferred, a customer-access plan or a commercial rollout date. The development adds to Stellar’s institutional adoption narrative. MoneyGram International has launched a Visa-compatible card in Colombia that uses USDC on Stellar, with Apple Wallet and Google Wallet support; Rain provides card infrastructure and Crossmint the wallet layer. MoneyGram plans to expand the product to additional countries, add its MGUSD token and introduce a physical card, although no timelines were given for those steps. Stellar supports roughly $3.3 billion in real-world assets and processed more than 11.6 million transactions in one day, while MoneyGram’s initiative targets part of its approximately $3 billion annual foreign-exchange business. Investors are also watching a September 15 vote tied to the CLARITY Act and XLM’s $0.195 resistance level; the crypto Fear & Greed Index is 68, indicating greed and the potential for volatility.
