President Donald Trump said he is not worried that Chinese President Xi Jinping will cancel a planned Sept. 24 visit to Washington, despite Beijing’s reported warning that new US arms sales to Taiwan could derail the meeting. Trump said the leaders have a great relationship and want to get along. The summit, expected to include a state dinner and be Xi’s first White House visit in more than a decade, would address Taiwan, trade, artificial intelligence and the Middle East. Trump is weighing a $14 billion arms deal with Taiwan, which China claims as part of its territory. Relations have also been strained by the Iran war, with China remaining the main buyer of Iranian oil and resisting US calls to sever economic ties with Tehran. Both governments are seeking to preserve a trade truce that is due to expire Nov. 10, while export controls on rare earth minerals and advanced technologies remain unresolved. Analysts have put the probability of the summit taking place above 90%, although Beijing has not officially announced Xi’s travel plans.
