Tesla has set October 1, 2026, for the public reveal of its long-delayed second-generation Roadster, marking its first firm public event date for the program since the original prototype debuted in 2017. The 8:30 p.m. Eastern event in Waco, Texas is to feature design updates and a live demonstration of the vehicle's capabilities, including an optional SpaceX cold-gas thruster package. Tesla lists a 0-to-60 mph time of 1.9 seconds for the standard model, less than one second with the thruster package, a top speed above 250 mph and range of up to 620 miles. The Roadster was initially targeted for 2020 production but has faced at least eight delays. Elon Musk has previously indicated that production and deliveries would begin in the 2027 to 2028 timeframe, while he had also said production would start 12 to 18 months after a major unveiling. The event follows earlier reports that a redesigned version could be shown in Texas and comes as Tesla offers limited Cybercab rides in Austin.
