Korea Investment & Securities is seeking joint funding and investment opportunities with global financial firms for South Korean data center projects, which President Kim Sung-whan identified as the country’s most prominent investment destination for overseas institutions. Kim said data centers require substantial financing for electricity, water, buildings and graphics processing units (GPUs), and that semiconductors and defense are also attracting strong foreign interest. The firm says it holds the largest market share in South Korea’s data center financing market, supporting its potential to raise capital with global partners. KIS has expanded cooperation with Fidelity, Carlyle and PIMCO to develop products and investment banking transactions, including a Korea-China-U.S. fund with Fidelity. It is also reviewing liquid, interest-generating products, including credit instruments, for comprehensive investment accounts. Kim said the firm manages more than 40 trillion Korean won in bonds as the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield approaches 5%, prompting maturity adjustments, hedging and portfolio diversification. KIS is reducing direct acquisitions of overseas real estate and other alternative assets, instead using global managers’ operating capabilities to structure products for Korean customers. Its KIS Night events, held in New York, Hong Kong and other locations since 2024, are intended to build relationships that can lead to joint products and investment deals.
