Entropy32 Plus is an open-source hardware project published by Alexander Higgins that uses radioactive decay as a physical entropy source for generating 12-word or 24-word Bitcoin BIP39 recovery phrases. Known as The Universe Bifurcator, the device receives pulses from a GQ Electronics GMC-320S Geiger counter through a 3.5-millimeter connection, converts them with an LM393 comparator and records the intervals on an ATmega328P microcontroller. Firmware compares consecutive intervals, discards equal or sub-200-microsecond measurements and collects 512 comparison bits before processing the 64-byte pool with SHA-256. It then uses 16 bytes of the hash for a 12-word phrase or 32 bytes for a 24-word phrase, adding the required BIP39 checksum and selecting words from the 2,048-word English list. The device has no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, displays phrases on a 0.91-inch OLED and keeps generated data only temporarily in RAM before a manual wipe and restart. Higgins describes the project as experimental and warns against using it for substantial funds because the entropy source has not been assessed under NIST SP 800-90B, independently audited or supported by a public raw-event dataset. The open-source repository includes firmware, circuit-board designs, fabrication files and printable enclosure data, but had no tagged production release or timetable for an independent security assessment as of Sept. 13, 2026.
