GE HealthCare Technologies is discussing a roughly $1 billion acquisition of Sofie Biotechnology from its founders and Trilantic, a private equity firm that emerged from Lehman Brothers. The deal would strengthen GE HealthCare’s pharmaceutical diagnostics division, which supplies agents and chemicals for medical scans, while adding Sofie’s radioactive chemicals used in cancer imaging. The purchase would be the company’s second-biggest acquisition since its separation from General Electric, following its $2.3 billion purchase of Intelerad, a cloud-based medical imaging provider. Earlier coverage identified the target as Sofie Biosciences. GE HealthCare shares have fallen more than 32% from their all-time high and declined for 12 consecutive days, while the company’s second-quarter revenue rose 3.5% to $5.3 billion and free cash flow was $68 million. Advanced imaging generated $3.77 billion in revenue, pharmaceutical diagnostics produced $843 million, and patient care solutions fell 13% to $675 million. Analysts forecast 5.3% annual revenue growth to $22.72 billion, with targets including $85 from Wells Fargo, $75 from Citigroup and a $77 average. Nelson Peltz’s Trian Fund Management has taken a $200 million stake and is expected to push for changes.
