AI coding agent Amp now offers free access when users provide their own computing resources and a model subscription or API key. ChatGPT subscribers connecting to Amp no longer need an Amp monthly plan, while BYOK users no longer pay Amp Token fees or face usage limits, except on enterprise plans. Amp agents can run free on users’ computers through Runner, whereas the remote Orbs environment remains pay-as-you-go. Amp has also introduced a free Hobby tier, with no additional charge for Teams users. Megawatt and Gigawatt members receive average discounts of 60% and 65%, respectively, on Orbs and model usage, plus early access to nine BYOK channels.
