Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin suffered an approximately 98% collapse within minutes of a highly volatile September 2026 debut, after rising from about $2.39 to as much as $316 on some exchanges. Biden blamed the project’s reported $5,000 of launch liquidity, said neither he nor collaborators sold tokens, and pledged to improve the project. More than 15,000 wallets reportedly lost money, while a small group of traders generated large gains. The LAPTOP project’s X account was subsequently suspended for reasons X has not publicly explained. Biden tagged Elon Musk in a request to restore the account, but there is no verified evidence that Musk supported, bought or sought to increase the token’s price, and no confirmed response from Musk.
