Shanghai Electric has won the contract for Unit 3 of the Samalaju combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power project in Sarawak, Malaysia. The agreement covers a complete turnkey engineering, procurement and construction solution and a 25-year long-term service agreement for the plant’s main equipment. Shanghai Electric says it will manufacture the key components internally, including gas and steam turbines, generators, heat-recovery steam generators and air-cooled systems, while serving as the sole long-term maintenance provider. The company’s industrial gas-turbine portfolio includes 300-megawatt and 78-megawatt models. It has delivered 103 units, with commissioned projects exceeding 21,000 megawatts of total installed capacity, while equipment covered by its long-term service programs has accumulated more than 1.3 million operating hours. Shanghai Electric says its manufacturing capacity could support delivery of new units as early as 2028, and that developers in Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam have also shown strong interest in placing orders.
