Bitcoin and other leading cryptocurrencies declined Sunday evening alongside U.S. stock futures amid uncertainty over the CLARITY Act and warnings from artificial-intelligence executives about major safety risks. Bitcoin was priced at $76,659.56 at 9:20 p.m. EDT, down 0.77% over 24 hours, after reaching an intraday low of $76,367. Ethereum fell 1.86% to $2,476.79, XRP declined 1.55% to $1.34, Solana dropped 2.33% to $99.50 and Dogecoin lost 2.69% to $0.08255. More than $270 million in crypto positions were liquidated over the previous 24 hours, primarily affecting long traders. The Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural cloture vote on the CLARITY Act on Tuesday. Bitcoin open interest rose 0.75% as its price fell, a combination that indicates new short positions were being established. Despite the decline, the Crypto Fear & Greed Index remained in greed territory after previously falling four points to 57 on September 14. The global crypto market capitalization stood at $2.62 trillion, down 0.89% in 24 hours. Stock futures also fell, with Dow futures down 0.17%, S&P 500 futures down 0.53% and Nasdaq 100 futures down 1.27%. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urged AI companies to slow their advances, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman supported the call to pace the frontier. Investors are also monitoring the Federal Reserve's policy meeting, with markets pricing in an 86% probability of a rate hike, according to CME FedWatch. Chartist Michaël van de Poppe said Bitcoin needs to reclaim $78,000 for a potential move toward $90,000, while analyst Ali Martinez said an ascending triangle on Ethereum's 12-hour chart could support a breakout toward $3,000.
