POSCO Group will showcase its vision for a decarbonized industrial ecosystem at the 2026 World Climate Industry Expo, held from the 16th to the 18th at BEXCO in Busan. POSCO Holdings, POSCO, POSCO International and POSCO E&C will operate an integrated pavilion centered on the Southeastern K-GX Cluster, a proposed regional model linking hydrogen-based steelmaking with carbon-free energy supplies and industrial infrastructure. The plan calls for nuclear power from South Korea's southeastern region to support water electrolysis and clean hydrogen production for steelmaking. Its core technology, POSCO's HyREX process, replaces coal with hydrogen to remove oxygen from iron ore, producing water during reduction and reducing emissions from molten iron production. POSCO aims to complete a 300,000-ton-per-year HyREX demonstration facility in Pohang by 2028 and secure commercialization technology by 2030. The pavilion will cover decarbonization technologies, core steel materials, carbon-free energy and the K-GX ecosystem, including renewable-energy projects, energy infrastructure and EPC capabilities in nuclear power, small modular reactors and high-temperature gas reactors. The group says a successful southeastern cluster could provide a model for other industrial regions.
