Injective activated its IIP-677 mainnet upgrade to version 1.20.3 on July 29, 2026, after 72% of token holders approved it through governance. The release includes Injective Mint, a tool for issuing tokenized equities and bonds designed to comply with SEC regulations. It also improves cross-chain interoperability, reduces block times, optimizes staking (locking crypto to earn rewards) for INJ, and creates new potential revenue streams for the protocol. Injective Mint is supported by an SEC Transfer Agent filing and a MiCA compliance whitepaper, covering U.S. and European regulatory frameworks. INJ remains the network’s native token for gas fees, staking rewards, governance voting and a monthly community buyback-and-burn mechanism. The upgrade follows Vulcan, which went live on June 9, 2026, reducing transaction fees, adding canonical Circle-issued USDC and launching new real-world asset trading markets. Injective reports more than $6.8 billion in cumulative RWA trading volume and approximately $1.1 billion in represented tokenized asset value as of mid-2026. The 72% approval rate was not unanimous, indicating deliberation among INJ holders over the compliance-focused strategy.
