BNB Chain's Pasteur hard fork, activated on August 25, 2026, has increased live mainnet block gas capacity by 28% through BEP-675. The upgrade streamlines block production by allowing builders to submit fully executed BidBlocks to validators, eliminating one of three previous EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) execution passes. BidBlock V2 blocks averaged 28% more gas than the former Bid V1 format, with peak capacity reaching 43.8 million gas versus 33.8 million. Adoption was rapid: BidBlock V2 represented approximately 98% of BSC blocks during the three-day period ending September 1, while 24 of 49 registered builders and all 33 active builders used BEP-675. With network utilization above 95%, BNB Smart Chain validators are targeting a 70 million gas limit by September 15, followed by planned increases to 80 million and eventually 90 million based on mainnet performance. The limit had exceeded 55 million by September 14, 2026. Testnet benchmarks showed throughput rising from 1,237 TPS to 2,324 TPS, an 88% increase. BNB traded at $724.58 on September 14, with a 24-hour change of -0.19%. The upgrade is unlikely to affect prices immediately, but greater scalability could support decentralized applications and institutional adoption over time. The planned gas-limit increases will test whether synchronization protocols and node efficiency can support larger blocks without compromising finality or security.
