Cryptocurrency trading activity rebounded sharply in August after reaching multi-year lows, with spot volume climbing to about $75 billion on Aug. 21 and perpetual-futures turnover reaching roughly $336 billion. CryptoQuant described the spot session as the second-largest since February and linked the increase to a price rally and broader buying demand, unlike earlier 2026 volume spikes during sell-offs. Binance led spot trading with $19.4 billion, followed by Coinbase at $8 billion and Gate at $5.1 billion. Bitcoin rose 25% during the rally, while an earlier account put the gain at 24%. Futures activity was led by Binance, but CryptoQuant said much of the increase reflected short covering and liquidations. Bitcoin later traded near $77,424 on Sept. 14, below its level a year earlier.
