South Korea's planned virtual-asset tax remains set for Jan. 1, 2027, but independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon has called for another delay, arguing that enforcement preparations remain inadequate. Han said investors could shift assets to overseas exchanges or private wallets, creating unequal treatment for domestic-exchange users, and said the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework alone would not provide complete transaction records. The tax would apply a combined 22% rate to annual gains above a 2.5 million won ($1,860) deduction. Han's intervention follows a National Assembly petition seeking a delay that received more than 50,000 signatures, while finance minister nominee Lee Hyoung-il has said many investors would face limited burdens under the proposed rules and that lawmakers could continue reviewing the issue.
