Waymo, Alphabet’s autonomous-driving division, is expanding its robotaxi footprint with a Las Vegas launch and plans for a fully autonomous taxi service in Tokyo in 2027. The Nevada rollout is Waymo’s first in the state and will begin with several dozen vehicles using its sixth-generation autonomous technology, built on Zeekr’s platform under the Ojai brand. In Tokyo, Waymo is working with GO and Nihon Kotsu on a limited initial fleet that could grow to about 100 vehicles. The launch depends on regulatory approval, as Japanese rules currently require human drivers in autonomous vehicles. Waymo was valued at $126 billion after raising $16 billion in February and now completes more than 500,000 self-driving trips weekly across its U.S. service areas. Alphabet shares have risen 11.8% in 2025, while analysts surveyed by TipRanks see a 21.9% upside to an average price target of $425.88.
